Recently, I went to see a nationally known speaker discuss a topic I had known of, but had not given much thought about. This topic was non-violence in a violent culture. It is a prevalent subject that we deal with everyday, but are so desensitized to it as a people that we are limited to the narrow-minded facets of the subject. For instance, did you know that violence is not merely limited to the physical? Did you know that it can take place in a structural form such as with sexism, racism or the negative thoughts we feed to ourselves on a daily basis? Did you know that this only perpetuates the non-progressiveness of this society and further leads to the internal dissatisfaction that will ultimately lead to our downfall? I think it is time to begin a social change, even if it is only by one person at a time b/c 'buttoning' up only leads to tears in the fabric... What do you think?
